Seabreeze Amusement Park has been around since the late 1870’s and what started off as a small place with picnic groves and a lakefront that attracted many.

Since it’s simple beginnings, Seabreeze Amusement Park has since grown to a thriving park located in Rochester, New York. This park is a seasonal amusement park that has since become a popular family hot spot.

Decades of Family Fun

The Seabreeze Amusement Park originally opened its doors on August 5, 1879, as the last stop on the steam railroad. When it first opened up, it was popular for its picnic groves and the lakefront water views. While the picnic spot was a hit, the park soon began adding mechanical rides to help draw in a bigger crowd.

During the 1920’s, the amusement park saw an increase in visitors as thousands come to enjoy the Virginia Reel, which was the world’s largest saltwater swimming pool. At this point, it is important to note that four roller coasters, including the park classic Jack rabbit, made their way into the park, giving visitors even more thrills to seek.

The 1940’s through the 1970’s saw a lot of park revamping going on. In the 1940’s, George Long, a member of the third generation of the Long family, bought the park and renamed it “Dreamland.” He also began adding in Circus-style acts and band concerts.

The 1950’s saw another spike in visitors as more and more families came to enjoy rides such as the Lightning Bug ride. They also enjoyed other attractions such as the Fairyland Zoo, a variety of live shows, and the goin’-upside-down Rock-O-Planes.

The next few years were pretty good for the park, that is until the late 1960’s and early 1970’s when the park experiences what they call “a few slow years.” It was at this time that the grandchildren of the Long family begun rebuilding the park by adding new attractions such as the Gyrosphere, ManHandlers, Kaleidoscope, Loop-O-Planes, and the Paratrooper. They even went so far as to rename the park Seabreeze Amusement Park once more.

From then on, the park continues to expand and grow to include more attractions that cater to the needs and wants of everyone in the family. The park now includes multiple roller-coasters, water rides and a wide variety of other rides for everyone to enjoy.

When it comes to summer fun, those at Seabreeze Amusement Park believe that families should spend their time enjoying their day, not worrying about all the nitty-gritty details.

    seabreeze music program

That being said, Seabreeze offers quite a range of different group programs that cater to families, summer programs, and more:

Seabreeze Amusement Park offers full catering services for groups of 50 to 4,000 people. With plenty of covered seating, shady trees and grassy areas in the groves, friends and family will enjoy the fact that the area is reserved for your group all day long.

What is even better, organizers don’t have to worry about meals because the food is cooked on site and set up and clean up is all taken care of by Seabreeze staff.

If you want to simply enjoy the beautify picnic groves that have been around for decades, then maybe the picnic grove rental is right up your alley.

This doesn’t include catering so that you can have your very own “do-it-yourself” picnic. You get exclusive use of your area for the day from 11 am to 8 pm. The grove comes with a large charcoal grill, electrical service, water supply and covered seating for 100 individuals under a high-peak Century Tent.

Seabreeze Amusement Park offers a few unique educational programs that cater to both kids and teens.

The first is the Music in the Park where music groups can perform in public. Groups get to perform on stage in the picnic grove, be critiqued non-competitively and get a plaque that recognizes their performance.

Math in the Park helps to share the “mathematics of Fun” with NYS fourth grade students. All activities in this program follow NYS math curriculum and are aligned to the Common Core Standards. The activities included in this program can help enhance your visit to the park by directly supporting and connecting classroom learning to real-world math.

The Seabreeze Classroom is an elementary school program that allows students to tap into their extra energy reserves and their imagination. This program includes specially designed study sheets that can be done before or after visiting the park and include learning exercises in both, music, map skills, science, writing and so much more.

The Science of Fun program is geared towards middle school Physical Science students. This program has students use custom labs created by local teachers for a hands-on experience.

Finally, the Physics of Fun program is catered towards High School Physics students. The Seabreeze Physics program uses custom labs designed by local physics teachers to give your students hands-on experience.
